AIEA Conference Proposals Assessment/Recommendation Rubric The Conference Proposal Review is an important process that seeks to identify engaging and relevant sessions, roundtables, and seven-minute motivators that, together, comprise a well-rounded, compelling, and informative conference content slate. The goal throughout this multi-tiered process is to provide conference participants with new knowledge, inspiration, and ideas to take home and use in their work advancing international education. Sessions will go through the following process:
Technical Review: Session proposals will be reviewed for technical completeness and eligibility.
Conference Committee Review: All technically eligible proposals will be reviewed by multiple members of the conference committee based on the criteria listed below. Highly recommended sessions will be shared for consideration.
Conference Chair & AIEA Staff Review: Together with the Conference Chair, the AIEA staff will review all highly recommended sessions to develop a holistic slate of content that advances the goals and objectives of the particular conference within the framework of the event.
Reviewer Instructions: In addition to the numeric scale below, reviewers are required to provide comments for each proposal explaining the score and any suggestions for improvement in the future.
Reviewers should consider the following for all conference session modalities (“standard” panel, roundtable discussion, 7-minute motivator)
Where relevant, proposals should represent a variety of institutions and presenters, including global perspectives.
Proposals should include presenters with demonstrated knowledge or expertise related to key issues in the session.
Proposals should relate to the conference theme and sub-themes, where applicable. If you read two or more proposals that cover the same or similar topic, please write this in a comment and share thoughts about which of the proposals may be stronger and why.
Proposals that are more interactive in nature, propose innovative approaches to sharing knowledge, and/or describe how discussion and Q&A will be included into the session.
As an additional point of reference, a standard/panel proposal that earns a 4 rating should meet all of the following criteria:
Highly relevant to international education leaders (e.g. strategic-level content, comprehensive institution or organization-wide perspectives, pressing issues facing the field and the profession, etc.)
Highly relevant to conference theme/subthemes
Diversity of perspectives
Quality of presenters
Degree of proposed interaction with attendees
Overall high quality of proposed session (given all the above criteria)
Evaluation Rating: Scale 1-4 (1 is lowest and 4 is highest) 1. Do not accept (explain reasons) 2. Probably do not accept but there is some aspect of the proposal that is of interest and could possibly be combined with another proposal or re-structured (explain) 3. Conditional acceptance, either with moderate changes (explain changes) or if there aren’t any other similar proposals that are stronger 4. Absolutely accept (explain reasons)
