Innovating for ACTION: Applying Climate justice to Transform International Offices Now!
Virtual January 23, 2-4:30 p.m. EST This workshop aims to build a new, yet required, sector competency by demonstrating that international higher education and the climate crisis are inextricably linked and how we can collectively take action. Despite increasing awareness of the climate crisis and the need for adaptation and transformation, the urgency of the situation has not yet led to concrete and transformative action plans, with very few publicized cases of institutions considering reducing their overall emissions impact, and even fewer reducing the carbon emission linked to their internationalization operations and activities. The time is now to meet student demand for action and face practitioner climate anxiety. From partnership development and recruitment activities to study abroad and work-integrated learning, all manner of internationalization will be explored in this program, with engaging learning activities facilitated by carbon-literate colleagues and shaped by the participants. Expect discomfort, dialogue, problem-solving, and tangible takeaways in this dynamic and timely session! |

This workshop explores how your institution can develop a purposeful international partnership strategy that results in an effective portfolio of linkages that advance the institution, engage a wide range of faculty, staff, and students, and can be sustained over time.
Experienced practitioners provide research findings, practical knowledge, and models for establishing the goals, criteria, policies, supports, and processes that foster partnership success and bring clarity and intentionality to partnership decision-making. Geared towards international education professionals with several years of experience, especially those who are responsible for partnership building at their institutions, the workshop equips participants with the basics of how to plan, organize, initiate, sustain, and evaluate partnerships between their home institutions and those in other countries. |

Too often global learning is reduced to immersive experiences and transnational mobility rather than an integrative learning process. Recentering our focus on learning processes rather than participation counts is critical if we are to ensure all students have sufficient opportunities to develop the global capacities that are critical to our collective thriving. Such capacities, like collaboration and deliberation across difference are shared priorities held by others on campus. Advancing this work demands coalition building and boundary spanning. This workshop will focus on the institutional structures and relationships necessary to deepen, broaden, and integrate global learning into institutions of higher education. Presenters will anchor the session by providing conceptual grounding for this work and give examples of strategies that leaders can use for a collective agenda that advances global learning for all.
Participants will also have opportunities to apply the framework to their own context and reflect with their peers. |
