Jane Gatewood
Candidate for AIEA President-Elect Jane Gatewood is Vice Provost for Global Engagement at the University of Rochester. In January 2025, she will become Vice Provost for Global Engagement at Emory University, her Alma mater. The editor of NAFSA's Guide to International Academic Partnerships, she created and led one of the first international partnerships units at a U.S. higher education institution. She has served in leadership roles for NAFSA and is a member of AIEA's Board of Directors. Gatewood has consulted on education and civil society development in Eastern Europe and has taught at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Georgia. Statement of Interest My deep involvement with AIEA has strengthened my commitment to advancing international education leadership. Serving as a Board Member at Large and Finance Committee Chair as well as Chairing the CEO Search Committee has given me unique insights into AIEA's operational and strategic needs. These roles have allowed me to work closely with diverse stakeholders while contributing to the organization's fiscal health and leadership transition. I am passionate about building upon AIEA's legacy of fostering innovative international education strategies and supporting the professional development of senior international officers. As president, I would leverage my experience to further strengthen AIEA's position as the premier organization for international education leaders. |
Christina Sanchez
Candidate for AIEA Member Outreach and Awards Committee Chair-Elect Christina Sanchez has served as a leader in higher education for 28 years with the past 21 years specific to the field of international education. Trained as an interculturalist, Sanchez focuses her work on campus internationalization to promote global and intercultural learning and competency development. She has provided keynotes and seminars on the advancement of internationalization and intercultural learning in various countries. She has served in leadership and volunteer roles with several international organizations. Statement of Interest It has been a pleasure to serve on the Membership, Outreach, and Awards Committee (MOAC) for the past two years. Under Paulo Zagalo-Melo’s previous and Jill Blondin’s current leadership, I have been inspired by the committee’s reorganization and newly launched initiatives. I believe I am well positioned to expand upon the good work established and move forward with additional initiatives. One of my favorite parts about the MOAC is the diversity of the committee members and insights offered from various constituent groups. I will also draw upon my work at various institutions and my DEIJB work to further strengthen MOAC. |
Mihaela Metianu
Candidate for AIEA Public Policy Chair-Elect Mihaela Metianu currently serves as the Assistant Provost for Global Engagement at Florida Atlantic University and has extensive leadership and practice experience in international higher education. In her current role, she oversees global strategic initiatives and engagement and leads the units under the Center for Global Engagement. Mihaela is a member of the Public Policy Committee and previously held roles within NAFSA. She presents regularly on international education policy, practice, and related topics. Statement of Interest My interest in serving as the Chair of the Public Policy Committee stems from a deep commitment for supporting AIEA as a member-led organization, and from the desire to engage with other leaders in implementing the new AIEA strategic vision for 2025 – 2028. The strategic plan focuses on shaping policy, mobilizing stakeholders, and raising AIEA’s profile as a thought leader in the field. With my experience as a member of the Public Policy Committee, background in regulatory compliance, and collaborative style, I can support the committee and help achieve AIEA's strategic goals. |
Hilary Kahn
Candidate for At-Large Board Member Hilary Kahn is an inspirational leader in the field of international education. She has held national and international roles including past president of AIEA, Executive Committee of CII with APLU, and inaugural member and chair of the National Academy of International Education. She has published widely and is an in-demand speaker and scholar not only in higher education internationalization and leadership but also in the academic disciplines of Anthropology and Global Studies. Statement of Interest International education is at a decisive moment, with constantly evolving landscapes of higher education and uncertain political contexts. To navigate our changing global field, AIEA will want to strengthen its position as a thought leader, a strong voice of advocacy, and the definitive place where international education leaders go to gain the practical and analytical skills they require. AIEA needs strategic and innovative leadership to help guide it as it looks to the horizon, and I am eager to contribute to AIEA’s work as it as it implements a new strategic plan and charts a definitive course for the future. |
Roopa Rawjee
Candiate for At-Large Board Member Roopa Rawjee is the Executive Director, Office of International Engagement at Illinois State University. A former English teacher in India and the U.S., Roopa directed International Student and Scholar Services, and served as Assistant Dean of Students prior to leading comprehensive internationalization at ISU. With three degrees from India, a master’s degree from California State University Northridge, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from California Lutheran University, Roopa is a member-leader in AIEA and NAFSA. Statement of Interest As a non-faculty SIO, I believe I bring a unique perspective to our collective work. I am a former Presidential Fellow and currently serve on the PD&E Committee. I would like to serve AIEA in a broader capacity so that I continue to give back to the organization while advocating for key issues and supporting colleagues. A pragmatic leader with a positive and transformative legacy, I created the Massachusetts Council for International Education’s (MaCIE) Executive Board in Spring 2014, and initiated an ongoing, thorough review of the organization. The organization eventually received non-profit status in 2021. |
Voytek Wloch
Candidate for At-Large Board Member Voytek Wloch is SIO and Director of Global Engagement at College of Lake County. Current EPIC Fellow at Stanford University, Voytek holds a Doctoral degree in educational leadership development, with an international leadership certificate (USA); Master's degree in journalism and political science (Poland); and Bachelor's degree in English (Canada). He serves on committees of numerous international education associations, including AIEA, NAFSA, FEA, and CCID. In 2025, he will also serve as chair of Study Illinois. Statement of Interest I have served AIEA in various capacities (Publications and Resources Committee, Conference Committee, Strategic Planning Taskforce, CEO Search Committee) and presented at AIEA’s conferences. In September 2024, together with AIEA’s President, a Board member, and 17 other SIOs, I participated in NAFSA’s inaugural Senior Leader Internationalization Summit in Washington, DC. I have earned each of my degrees in a different country and am committed to international education through my personal as well as professional experience. I practice advocacy and believe that I can be a strong voice for community college SIOs and state consortia, as AIEA enters its new chapter. |
