The AIEA internship provides meaningful, practical work and professional development opportunities at the annual conference. AIEA, the Association of International Education Administrators, is a professional organization that serves leaders in international education. The AIEA Annual Conference is an event that brings senior international officers from all over the world together for provocative, relevant and rewarding dialogue and networking.

AIEA is now accepting applications for four interns that will oversee a variety of functions.  Interns play a critical role in ensuring the conference’s success. All positions require a high level of organization and leadership skills to carry out the following key responsibilities:

  • Volunteer Recruitment and Management – Recruit volunteers from local college campuses within an hour of the conference, Train and manage a volunteer staff of 40-50 individuals, oversee staffing and logistical needs for the duration of the entire conference.    
  • Event Planning – Assist in managing and scheduling volunteers, serve as point person on logistics for events, and escort high-level guests and speakers for the duration of the entire conference.
  • Session Monitoring – Oversee logistics for 100+ conference sessions and workshops for the duration of the conference.
  • Technology Assistance – Work with audiovisual staff to assist and review session logistics and track equipment usage.  Work closely with conference speakers on individual technology issues related to laptops, PowerPoint presentations, and projectors for the duration of the conference.  

LOCATION: Washington D.C. Marriott Wardman Park, February 15-19, 2020

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT: English fluency required. Fluency in other languages is helpful and encouraged but not required. All official conference programming is in English.

TIME REQUIREMENT: Detailed requirement to follow. Interns should be prepared to recruit volunteers at their home institution and Washington D.C.-based institutions. Interns will also anticipate several phone calls, required reading, and other small assignments remotely in the two months prior to the conference.  From February 15-19, interns should anticipate being on site and working 7:00 am - 8:00 pm with breaks during the conference days.

Eligible candidates will be interviewed by phone, Skype, or in person (when possible).
Transportation and lodging expenses and arrangements will be the responsibility of the intern.
Interns must be eligible to work in the U.S.

The AIEA volunteer program provides meaningful, practical work and professional development opportunities at the AIEA annual conference. AIEA, the Association of International Education Administrators, is a professional organization that serves leaders in international education. The AIEA Annual Conference is an event that brings senior international officers from all over the world together for provocative, relevant and rewarding dialogue and networking.

AIEA is collecting information from volunteers interested in assisting in a variety of tactical and logistical tasks associated with hosting our annual conference. AIEA will need a volunteer staff of 50-60 people to work dedicated shifts of 3-4 hours over the conference days, February 15-19, 2020. This includes one day of orientation and set up as well as the three days of conference programming.

Volunteers will be responsible for ensuring logistical and tactical tasks are implemented to make the attendee experience memorable and productive.  

Volunteers will have the opportunity to network with senior leaders in international higher education; gain insights into trends for the future of the field; and serve an integral role in the premiere conference on the internationalization of higher education. 

LOCATION
Washington D.C.: Washington Marriott Wardman Park, February 15-19, 2020
Volunteers are responsible for travel and/or lodging costs. Snacks and drinks will be provided on site.

If you are interested in volunteering at the Annual Conference, please fill out this AIEA Volunteer Interest Form.  This initial form is intended to collect contact information and preliminary interest in helping with the conference. Volunteers will be contacted closer to the conference time with specific times and assignments as scheduling is finalized. Preference will be given to undergraduate students, graduate students, and young professionals with an interest in international education.

 

Past volunteer responsibilities include: 

  • Sessions—ensure each of the rooms for each session is properly set and ready for presenters and attendees. 
    1. Audiovisual equipment is in place and working. 
    2. Sufficient number of seats for expected attendees. 
    3. Evaluation forms are ready. 
    4. Water station is set. 
    5. Correct signage outside room. 
    6. Check name badges to verify participants are registered.
  • Events—these include meals and keynote presentations on and off site.  Volunteers will be available to welcome attendees and help direct to rooms and seats, etc.
  • Keynote Presenters—ensure everything on stage is ready; sound check and audiovisual is working.  
  • Exhibit Hall—monitor badges for admissions.  Check with exhibitors to ensure they are ready for attendees. 
  • Registration Desk—assist registration team in handing out bags and materials.
