THE PURPOSES OF THE GHOST RANCH SEMINARS

The overall goal of the Ghost Ranch seminars, as articulated in the Strategic Plan of 2000 is: "To facilitate the establishment of a strong professional network built on trust, the sharing of experiences, and brainstorming; and to work together on important issues in international education administration at the campus level."

More specifically, based on the seven Ghost Ranch seminars conducted between 1994 and 1999, the following objectives have guided the participants at each of the seminars:

  1. To provide a secure and non-threatening environment where participants can openly, frankly, and confidentially discuss with other participants issues and problems they were facing concerning the administration of international programs at their individual campuses.
  2. To provide an opportunity for in-depth interaction on issues of importance to the administration of international education programs at the campus level.
  3. To provide an opportunity for networking and developing friendship and ongoing professional bonds between participants.
  4. To provide a greater understanding of the issues that different institutions - public and private, denominational and non-denominational, large and small - experience, by involving participants who come from a variety of institutions.
  5. To serve as a recruitment tool for new AIEA members, by inviting and involving participants from non-AIEA member institutions.
  6. To assist the Campus Administration and Programs Committee in identifying and describing important issues in international education administration at the campus level - issue that might not have been included in discussion strictly within the association (one of the original objectives).
